Market Research
At this stage of the project, I focused on understanding the target users. I conducted research to identify the audience segments most likely to benefit from the app and analysed competing products to uncover opportunities for differentiation. These insights helped define Planty’s distinctive features and value proposition.
Feature comparison chart
By comparing our app with competitors side-by-side, we get insights about what features they have and don't. What features could be included or improved to differentiate ourselves as better than others.

We are working on the Photo Identification feature powered by AI model and also a Care reminder feature for more personalized experience. But we are also ahead of our competitors on other things such as a strong community support, providing users a way to exchange ideas. A full dedicated team of expert providing real time assistance for people who needs urgent help. We strongly embrace our uniqueness upon the competitive market.
User Research
To better understand the needs of our target audience, we selected research participants with relevant interests, experiences, or specific needs that aligned with the intended users of the product. They could be:
1. People who do planting as their hobby but also busy at work, often seeking for professional help urgently.
2. People who also do planting as their hobby but also want to spend time reading knowledgeable material, exchanging ideas with peers.
3. Landscape technicians who need to manage massive gardens or grasslands for work at a timely and professional manner.
4. Students who are doing research for their study about related subjects.
To conduct the interviews, we asked participants a series of questions to better understand their backgrounds, challenges, and expectations:
-
What is your background in terms of education, career, and hobbies?
-
What challenges do you face most often when caring for plants, and how do you currently deal with them?
-
If an online platform were designed for people with similar interests, which features would you find most valuable? How do you think such a platform could improve or change your current lifestyle or plant-care habits?
-
Have you used any applications or platforms with similar concepts? If so, what did you like or dislike about them?
